Revised Chapter 2 sets forth the faculty lines, appointment ranks, terms of appointment, and operational policies and procedures for appointments, reappointments and promotions in the Stanford University Professoriate, as defined in Section 1.2.5 of this handbook to include the Tenure Line, the Non-Tenure Line, Senior Fellows and Center Fellows at designated policy institutes, and the Medical Center Line. The Statement on Appointment and Tenure, which provides the historical foundations for many of these provisions, is located in Chapter 4 (“Core Policy Statements”) of this handbook. The criteria for professorial appointments, reappointments and promotions are found in the appointment forms in to this handbook, along with other guidelines relevant to these processes. Note that various schools may have school-designated policies and practices that must be followed, and those carrying out search and review processes are urged to consult their Dean’s offices for the pertinent information.

Graduates of the program will be eligible to take the certification examination implemented by the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). The NBCOT is an independent national credentialing agency.

It is responsible for all policies related to the certification of occupational therapy personnel. Upon successful completion of this examination, the graduate will be an Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR).

Most states have regulations that govern the practice of occupational therapy. However, many states use the results of the NBCOT certification examination to determine a practitioner’s eligibility to practice. Accreditation-Traditional Doctor of Occupational Therapy The University’s doctoral-degree-level occupational therapy program has been approved as an Applicant Program by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). The entry-level occupational therapy doctoral degree program has applied for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, Suite 200, Bethesda, MD. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-AOTA and its Web address is www.acoteonline.org. The program must be granted Candidacy Status, have a pre-accreditation review, complete an on-site evaluation, and be granted Accreditation Status before its graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR).

In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure. Program Options The Occupational Therapy program offers two options, Traditional and Weekend College (WEC). Traditional Program The Traditional program is a post-baccalaureate program with a Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree awarded after three years of graduate study.

Mission The mission of the Traditional Occupational Therapy program at The University of Findlay is to prepare occupational therapists who value and implement an evidence-based, community-focused and occupation-based approach to practice grounded in the tenets of occupational science; are leaders in a variety of professional roles; and participate in, and contribute to, ongoing professional development in preparation for service in diverse communities. Goals Upon completion of the Traditional Occupational Therapy program at The University of Findlay, the graduate will be prepared to:. Practice occupational therapy in a holistic and person-centered manner that ensures a critical awareness of and sensitivity to contextual and cultural issues that impact occupational performance. Articulate and apply diverse contemporary and traditional occupation-based approaches to interventions that are relevant to consumer goals, resources and anticipated outcomes across the life span. Evaluate sociopolitical and economic systems and trends that impact the ever-changing administration and provision of occupational therapy services within various contemporary communities.

Employ theoretical foundations, clinical reasoning and current research for effective evidence based practice. Be moral and ethical occupational therapy practitioners who demonstrate leadership and an understanding of and commitment to the values of the profession by being self-directed practitioners, life-long learners and agents of change. Early Assurance for Admission into the Traditional Occupational Therapy Program The early assurance option is available to high school seniors. Early assurance applicants will be required to apply to The University of Findlay to complete their bachelor’s degree.

If granted undergraduate admission and the following criteria are met, the applicant will be sent a separate supplemental early assurance option application:. Minimum overall grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale; and. 25 or higher on the ACT or 1700 or higher on the SAT.

The supplemental early assurance option application allows the high school student to provide the reviewers with information regarding extra-curricular activities and community service as well as performance in other areas pertinent to granting an invitation to participate in the early assurance program. In order to maintain early assurance candidacy status, students will be required to:.

Meet with an identified OT advisor once per semester to ensure that the student maintains the requirements of the early assurance program,. Have all Traditional Occupational Therapy program prerequisites be satisfied by the end of the senior year and,. Complete and submit the intent to enroll application and the OT advisor verification of status during the application cycle prior to their intended start date. Admission Requirements Students wishing to apply for admission to the Traditional Occupational Therapy program must have completed the prerequisite courses with a “C” or better in all prerequisite courses.

All prerequisite courses should be completed before making application to the program. In addition, the following admission criteria must be met:. Minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 and a minimum science GPA of 3.0. Complete a total of 50 hours of observation in two different occupational therapy settings, with a minimum of 20 hours in each setting.

Evidence of completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution prior to beginning the doctoral program. Completion of the Occupational Therapy Central Application Service (OTCAS) and Traditional College program supplemental application materials. Three satisfactory professional recommendations.

Students enrolled at The University of Findlay are given special consideration. Community service and writing skills are also considered when determining a student’s admission status. Applicants may begin the application process during the application cycle prior to the conferral date of the bachelor’s degree. If chosen for admission, the applicant will be given conditional acceptance until proof of completion of the baccalaureate degree and program prerequisites have been confirmed. If the applicant does not have the required baccalaureate degree and program prerequisites prior to the program start date, the status of conditional acceptance will be revoked. Weekend College Program The Weekend College program is a three-year program with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree awarded after the third year. The Weekend College Occupational Therapy program is designed for students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Goal The goal of the Weekend College Occupational Therapy program is to provide educational experiences that foster the knowledge, skills and values necessary for entry-level occupational therapy practitioners. Admission Requirements Students wishing to apply for admission to the Weekend College Occupational Therapy program must have completed the prerequisite courses with a “C” or better in all prerequisite courses. All prerequisite courses should be completed before making application to the program. In addition, the following admission criteria must be met:. Minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 and a minimum science GPA of 3.0.

Complete a total of 100 hours of observation in two different occupational therapy settings, with a minimum of 20 hours in each setting. Evidence of completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution prior to beginning the professional program. Completion of the Occupational Therapy Central Application Service (OTCAS) and Weekend College program supplemental application materials. Admission Requirements Continued-Traditional or WEC Program Students whose native language is not English and who have not graduated from American universities must meet the previously listed admissions conditions, plus:. Have a verified TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) minimum total score of 89 with 26 or better in speaking and 24 or better in writing or a verified International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic score with a minimum overall band score of 7.0. Students not supplying an IELTS score are required to test in the Intensive English Language Program, and if necessary, complete coursework in English. Provide an affidavit of financial support (original), if not an American citizen or a permanent resident.

The Occupational Therapy program reserves the right to make program and admission requirement changes without prior notice. Program Minimum Progress Standards The Occupational Therapy program minimum progress standards are more stringent than the University’s policy regarding graduate minimum progress.
