Hierna zal IX alleen nog de corebase van freenas 8 onderhouden en zal de rest van de source eidelijk weer opensource worden/zijn. Oftewel dan pas kan het oude team en community starten met IX 8 code indien men deze code accepteerd.
PHP was jaren de code voor de gui etc. Daar is IX van afgestapt, inmiddels beginnen de die-hards en FreeNAS supporters zich al te verzeten tegen de keuze dojo en django omdat het nu van iedereen verlangt om deze code te leren voordat men can ontwikkelen en gui aanpassingen kan maken. Tevens is de originele GUI van 7 compatible met dic browsers waar IX FreeNAS 8 dit laat afweten, IE is bijv. Al helemaal geen suc6.
Velen weten het niet, maar IX FreeNAS 8 gebruikers zijn op dit moment niet anders dan proefkonijnen de final verkoop build is nog niet klaar, toekomstige uitbreidingen voor de meeste gebruikers zal heel lastig worden, ook zijn de hardware eisen straks niet meer geschikt voor een P3 of P4 oude amd etc. Indien je dit niet geloofd neem dan maar contact op met zoon01 op freenas irc, hij is 1 van de oudere developers van FreeNAS. Gisteren heb ik mijn FreeNAS installatie ook een update gegeven alleen moet je er voor de zekerheid wel even een scherm en toetsenbord bij pakken. Mijn Atom-bord bevat een goedkope Realtek netwerkkaart en zoals ik al had verwacht moest ik de Realtek driver opnieuw toevoegen aan /cf/boot/kernel. Als je geen Realtek nic hebt heb je niets te vrezen, het zal je veel moeite besparen. Met Samba had ik wel een klein probleem namelijk dat het 'libldap.so.7' niet kon vinden. Dit heb ik weten op te lossen door Samba opnieuw te downloaden via de pakketlijst.
Het enige waar je wel rekening mee moet houden is dat versie van Samba iets ouder is. Je zult er waarschijnlijk niets van merken.
(Lees en schrijfsnelheid over het netwerk is gelijk gebleven bij mij). Iets als: Note: Ik weet dat het FreeBSD 7.3 is alleen zijn de pakketten van 7.4 wat recenter.
